We have been in contact with the Leisure Services Department who is currently preparing a feasibility report which is quite detailed. Rob Raycroft sounds very positive about the probability of setting up an off leash park or maybe even 2!
Among the proposed locations is over an acre of land next to Staples (near the Walmart Smart Centre). This can happen very quickly -- this year.
The final council meeting before they break for summer will be held on June 15, 2010 at 7pm. If the proposal of an off leash dog park makes it onto the agenda we would like to have a marked presence of supporters at this meeting. Please check the town website after Jun 11 to see the agenda for Jun 15 meeting. whitchurchstouffville.fileprosite.com/Documents/DocumentList.aspx?ID=6302
We will also update this site when we learn if council will bring up the issue of the off leash dog park or if the Stouffville Dog Owners' Association will be bringing this issue before council at the June 15 meeting.
Paper petitions are still circulating and we encourage you to sign the online petition if you are comfortable with using computers.
Signatures of advocates for an off leash dog park currently number over 250. To put this number in perspective: Richmond Hill, whose population far exceeds that of Stouffville, had 400 signatures before council agreed to assist with their pilot project dog park. Thank you to all who have signed. I encourage you to join us at the council meeting to show your support of this cause and get the most up-to-date news on this issue!
