The goal of the Stouffville Dog Owners Association is to promote responsible dog ownership & advocate for dog & owners rights in the Whitchurch Stouffville Area.
Hopefully a properly designed off leash area is one of the things this association can accomplish, as well as, the over well improvement of the community.

Hello Brendan:
I am delighted and please to find this sight.
I have been talking to Wayne Emerson, who tried to tell me that there is no support for an off leash area in Stouffville.
So I had decided to make up petitions and take them to all the local vets, dog groomers, boarding facilities and doggie day care. The vets that I have spoken to are very very supportive. Have you tried this route? It was my vets office that directed my to this website. Do you think we could bring this more to the fore front by having petitions in these locations? I would be happy to deliver and pickup.
Wayne Emerson also told me there is going to be a council meeting in April (which he has promised to call and notify me of the date) and that the more support we could get at this meeting the more likely it would be passed.
Please contact me, so we can discuss options for moving forward.

Appreciate you joining and providing input. At present I have only put flyer's up at all the Pet Stores and approached 2 of the Vets. Next I plan to put some up in grocery stores and libraries etc.. as well as some plastic covered ones at some of the municipal forests. I also would like to follow up with the local paper and try and get this moving.
Hopefully we can get a few more on board and get together for coffee and brainstorm.
Brendan

We have a 5 month old puppy and we really support an off-leash park. I get the impression that council has never considered this a priority and I'll bet they still don't!
Please include me on your list of supporters.
Thanks! Vicky Yakabuski

I read your article in the paper...how can I help? We lived in Bolton for 3 years and they had a beautiful leash free - we really miss it! Is there a petition to sign?

I walk my dogs off leash in the York Regional Forest but a local spot where I could let them run and play would be fabulous. Good job on the newspaper article.

I'm so pleased that the ball is rolling on getting a leash-free park here. Thanks Brendan and everyone else supporting this.
I was in touch with the Mayor in the fall regarding a fenced-in off-leash park and was told that the town had no plans to go ahead with one citing problems that other municipalities have had and liability issues, so I have had to frequent the ones in Markham, Aurora and Richmond Hill.
If the plan is to try to form a group to try to spearhead this project, I would be more than willing to help out. I agree that a petition would be beneficial and would be prepared to canvass my neighbourhood and local park to get support. Brendan, do you have a standard petition form that you could post?

I'll help any way I can. I just moved here from Markham end of November and it's incredible the number of dogs I see. I can't see the town ignoring ALL of us.

Astro and PJ are so wanting to re-create the fun they used to have at Dog Hill in High Park in Etobicoke. Nothing like dogs running free with their friends. We assumed there would be a dog park in the area based on Stouffville being so rural. So count us in as signatures to the petition. There's a great spot for the park......... behind the Walmart and just north of the large storage managment pond. Out of the way place where dogs can run to hearts content. Woud be nice to have a few trees and the like too though. Looking forward to seeing this through !

Hi all. We had our first meeting today at Country Style Donuts on Main Street. Six people came out to share their ideas, visions and thoughts, not a bad turnout on short notice.
To bring you up to date, Brendan has already posted some information sheets in pet stores and vets around Stouffville. Those of us attending today's meeting are also going to post (if permitted) information sheets with this website address, as well as petition forms, at various locations around town (all vet clinics, pet shops, GO train station, grocery stores, community centre, laundromats). Hopefully between these petition sheets and the online petition we will be able to gather many more signatures to strengthen our position when going to council.
We have scheduled our next meeting for 2pm on Sunday, May 2 at the Country Style on Main Street (in the Giant Tiger plaza). We hope that those of you in support of an off-leash park will make plans to attend. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas, as well as ways in which you are able to help out.

Hi Brendan, Any way I can help let me know! We have a dog and would love to have an off-leash area. I can sign a petition or come for a meeting. Let me know when the next meeting is and where I can sign.
Thanks for your energy and determination in this matter.

Hi David, The grand opening of Stouffville's first off-leash pilot project took place today. The Stouffville Dog Owners' Association has also created a new website which will be monitored more closely and will be easier to navigate. Please visit freethepooch.com. We look forward to meeting your family and new puppy in the near future.
Regards,
Kirsten
